CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE OF HVAC SYSTEMS ON VESSELS USING POSITIVE MICRO-ORGANISMS: Tectobiotics®

Goal

  • Improve the overall hygiene and air quality in all areas of the ship
  • Healthy working atmosphere
  • Purified HVAC for a healthier living / workspace

Bioremediation by Tectobiotics®

Tectobiotics® are positive micro-organisms which:

  • Clean up installations and keep them clean
  • Reduce the risk of biofilm and contamination
  • Are safe, healthy and pleasant to use

How do we do this ?

By cleaning and misting of:

  • Air handling units
  • Splitunits
  • Fan convectors and ejection convectors
  • Air-cooled condensors
  • Evaporators on cooling cells

Removal of visible contamination:

SPRAY & WIPE : Visible dirt and dust are removed by means of undiluted product (BioOrg HVAC Clean). Where necessary, the lime is first removed and rinsed away (BioOrg Deep Clean).

SPRAY & GO : Then an ecosystem of benign bacteria is created by atomization (BioOrg HVAC Coat).

A purifying and protective ecosystem

An ecosystem of benign bacteria is introduced into the installation (and the ship) by means of periodic atomization (every 6 months).

This ecosystem ensures permanent air purification, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This ecosystem has a positive effect on various pollutants in the air, making the air healthier and cleaner for everyone on board.

Since the ecosystem actively breaks down visible and invisible pollution, it also has a positive influence on the pollution level, which in combination with BioOrg's patented methods can ensure superior efficiency and quality at a lower cost in the remediation of the HVAC installations.

Better breathing

Thanks to the purifying and protective ecosystem, the air in the vessel is purified 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with a positive impact on the various pollutants. (see table 2).The Tectobiotics® metabolize visible AND invisible pollution, converting the air into cleaner, healthier, purer air for everyone on board. These Tectobiotics® increase the air quality and help improve the well-being of the crew and passengers.

100% Safe and Healthy

Thanks to the Tectobiotics® we have a positive impact on the environment and nature:

  • Products: 100% organic, our products convert pollution in "Friendly Biomass" = HELPING nature!
  • PF-Packaging: all our packaging is 100% recyclable
  • Method: no water, no detergents and no negative impact on nature and health.

Strengthening the Immune System

  • Thanks to our ecosystem, we actively and systematically reduce the pollution that can cause irritations, allergies, infections and health problems.
  • The symbiosis with the Tectobiotics® helps to strengthen our immune system.

REPORT OF HVAC MISTING AT COLRUYT GROUP

- EDINGENSE STEENWEG 196 - B-1500 HALLE

Foreword

When good organisms are applied, the activation of a self-purifying ecosystem starts in the different sections of the building's HVAC installations..

For the tested system with humidification, the soiled irrigation packages (honeycomb) were previously cleaned and descaled (BioOrg HVAC Deep Clean) and then treated with BioOrg HVAC Coat so that when the systems were started up, the different surfaces of the irrigation packages were coated with benign bacteria.

Place of test: Technical room in main building

Installation: humidification section of lg12

The dimensions of the packages are as follows::

  • 4x 1,33*0,59*0,10 = 0,3138 m3
  • 4x 1,30*0,59*0,07 = 0,2147 m3
  • 1x 1,33*0,29*0,10 = 0,0385 m3
  • 1x 1,30*0,29*0,07 = 0,0263 m3

Total volume of 0,5933 m3

The microbiological quality of HVAC installations

To have a properly functioning self-purifying ecosystem, a minimum number of Tectobiotics® must be present on all critical surfaces.

The count of the Tectobiotics® is derived from the Total Aerobic Plate Count - the Gram-negative bacteria and the presence of aerobic spores.

Conversely, the number of negative microorganisms, such as Gram-negative bacteria, Enterobacteriaceae, yeasts and fungi on the same surfaces, must be limited in order not to disturb the purifying effect of the Tectobiotics® on the one hand and on the other hand not give rise to the formation of pollutants in the indoor environment.

The Importance of a Good Indoor Environment

More than ever, the importance of a good indoor environment is seen as an important factor for our health. After all, we spend up to 90% of our time indoors and indoor air is often much dirtier than outdoor air (Prof. Dr. L. Godderis, 2015).

The causes of health complaints from a poor indoor environment are very diverse and can be caused by moisture problems, fumes from paints or building materials, or a lack of ventilation in the room.
Building-related chemical, biotic and physical factors and agents are at the root of indoor pollution (EPA 1994, ADHA 2007, WHO 2009).

Building-related chemical, biotic and physical factors and agents are at the root of indoor pollution (EPA 1994, ADHA 2007, WHO 2009).:

  • Chemical, carcinogenic and mutagenic agents: formaldehyde, radon, asbestos, lead or ammonia,
  • Environmental factors and physical agents: moisture, temperature, electromagnetic radiation or noise,
  • Biotic agents: fungi, gram-negative microorganisms and pathogens.

In the indoor environment of a building, too high concentrations of fine particles, volatile organic compounds (VOC), abnormal odors and allergens are often found and these pollutants have a clear effect on the well-being, health and productivity of the people present (Leyten and Boerstra 2003).

Activation of a self-purifying ecosystem in the building

When a self-purifying ecosystem is activated in the entire building, a purification station is created, as it were, that works according to this scheme:

Ecosystem EN

In a building, (microscopic) pollution is continuously supplied from the outside, but also generated by indoor sources: odor nuisance, volatile organic compounds (VOC), particulate matter (Particulate Matter, PM0,1 PM2,5 PM10) and allergens, and these pollutants have a clear effect on the well-being, health and productivity of the people present (Leyten and Boerstra 2003).

This pollution in the indoor environment is metabolized by the benign micro-organisms, the so-called Tectobiotics®:

pollution EN

The presence of these Tectobiotics® is checked by means of microbiological counts (see Tabel 1).

The performance of the ecosystem and the evaluation of the quality of the indoor environment

The figure below provides a summary of the functioning of the self-purifying ecosystem and

The goal is to achieve a performance of the ecosystem of at least 80%.
